Course Description

This qualification is designed for experienced plumbing and heating engineers who wish to develop their skills in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of air source heat pump (ASHP) systems. It aligns with the requirements of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and supports the UK’s transition to low-carbon heating technologies.

NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing or Heating and Ventilation (or equivalent)

Environmental benefits and system types
Heat pump cycle and refrigerants
Coefficient of performance (COP) and Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF)

Heat loss calculations
Sizing and selection of ASHP units

Installation and Commissioning

Pipework and electrical requirements
Positioning and mounting of external and internal units
System filling, flushing, and commissioning procedures
Maintenance and Fault Diagnosis

Routine servicing

Upon successful completion, candidates receive the City & Guilds Level 3 Award (2924), which is recognised by MCS and industry employers.
