Course Description
The heat pump course is specifically aimed at existing fossil fuel plumbing and heating engineers and giving them the necessary training to upskill their existing skills to install heat pumps. The course allows delegates to continue to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment within the Building Engineering Services (BES) Renewable sector.
The objective of this course is for delegates to demonstrate they know and understand the requirements for installing heat pump systems. This will Include the different operational characteristics of each type of heat pump, namely air pumps, their components, the principles of heat pump selection, system design, emitter selection, hydraulics, the preparatory work required for heat pumps installations and the requirements to install, commission and hand over heat pump systems.
Delegates will know the health and safety risks and regulations and standards relating to the installation, testing, and commissioning of heat pump systems.
The objective of this course is for delegates to demonstrate they are competent in accordance with legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
The course contains the following sections:
• Heat Pump Technology (Non refrigerant Circuits) Course
- Know the requirements to size, select, install, commission and handover heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits)
- Plan, prepare and Install heat pumps (Non-Refrigerant Circuits)
- Commission and handover heat pumps (Non-Refrigerant Circuits)
- Know the requirements to inspect, service and maintain heat pump systems (Non-Refrigerant Circuits)
• Air Source Heat Pump Technology (Non-Refrigerant Circuit) Course
- Know the requirements to size, select, install, commission and handover an air source heat pump system (non-refrigerant circuits)
- Commission and handover air source heat pumps (Non-Refrigerant Circuits)
- Inspect, service and maintain air source heat pumps (Non-Refrigerant Circuits)Air Source Heat Pump Technology (Non-Refrigerant Circuit)
Practical and Theory Training
This course is a blend of both practical and theory sessions to allow delegates to practice the skills and knowledge gained during the course prior to assessment.

7. CANCELLATION
7.1 The Customer may cancel Public Training on 30 calendar days’ notice to NCC. Cancellations must be provided in writing to the NCC Business Development Executive and Commercial@NCClondon.ac.uk Public Training may not be cancelled or rescheduled within 30 days of the start date of the Public Training.
7.2 The Customer may cancel In-House Training on 45 calendar days’ notice to NCC. Cancellations must be provided in writing to the NCC Business Development Executive and Commercial@NCClondon.ac.uk . In-House Training may not be cancelled or rescheduled within 45 days of the start date of the In-House Training.
7.3 Non-classroom-based Training may not be cancelled or rescheduled under any circumstances and Charges for non-classroom-based Training are therefore non-refundable.
7.4 Training may only be cancelled by the Customer in accordance with this clause 7. If a Customer or Delegates fail to attend all or part of any Training, full payment of the Charges shall be required.
7.5 If a refund is approved by NCC, it will be made through the original mode of payment only.
Specific Terms and Conditions
Entry Requirements:
Delegates must already hold the following:
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification; or
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification; or
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification; or
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification; or
• N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification
And if not included in the above qualification
• Water Regulations/Water Byelaws (WRAS)
• A pre-requisite recommendation is Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems (LTHWHS).
Prior to starting the course, delegates must provide the following:
• Copies of certificates for prior qualifications held
Delegates must bring the following things on day 1 of the course:
• Passport size photographs (x2)
• Basic stationary (Pen, pencil, ruler)
• A calculator
